UNICEF is asking the public for donations so it can keep children safe in Yemen where as many as 10 million are thought to be in danger. The aid agency says there is a major humanitarian crisis in the country following four years of political and civil unrest. This has left millions of children in urgent need of food, water and medicine. The situation has deteriorated significantly as a result of heavy air strikes and fierce fighting.
Nearly 2 million children at risk
UNICEF estimates that nearly 2 million children are threatened by the risk of malnourishment. Yemen is being gripped by food shortages and this means nutritional supplies are being finished quickly at most health facilities and need to be replenished. Since March, UNICEF has been working with partners to deliver 1,250 tonnes of supplies which have saved many lives. However the agency needs your help if it is to reach more children in danger.
UNICEF working round the clock
A £50 donation could provide a two month supply of peanut paste which would be enough to nurse back to health two severely malnourished children. Despite the situation on the ground deteriorating rapidly, UNICEF is right there working 24 hours a day to keep children protected. So far 1.3 million people have fled their homes looking for a safer place to stay.
Your donations could help deliver long term aid
With donations from the general public UNICEF can deliver long term aid and make sure that children that have been displaced do not have to miss out on education. UNICEF supports many schools and other child friendly spaces where kids can continue with their lessons and learn how to avoid unexploded weapons and landmines. For just £15 a month, you can help ensure children have access to a regular supply of classroom materials. The aid agency says we have to act now to keep millions of children safe from the dangers of war, disease and hunger.
