September 2011 sees the start of the St John Ambulance national first aid awareness month, which will aim to give people the basic skills they may require in a life and death situation. The ‘Save a Life’ scheme is part of St. John Ambulance’s aim to help raise awareness of the importance of first aid.
The charity will be holding loads of free first aid demonstrations across the whole of September in different places across the country. These live events will be held in prominent places such as town squares and shopping centres, there’s even on in the Grosvenor Centre near my house in Northampton!
The aim is to show the general public five simple procedures to help save someone’s life in an emergency. They will also be giving out a free pocket sized first aid guide that you can keep in case you need some guidance in an emergency. With up to 150,000 people a year die in situations where first aid could have given them a chance to live, this simple training could prove to a real lifesaver one day.
CEO at St. John Ambulance, Sue Killen, said –
We believe that no one should die because they needed first aid and didn’t get it, which is why we are launching Save a Life September. By holding first aid demonstrations across the country, we want to reach as many people as possible, so that more people are equipped with the skills to save a life. Anyone who needs first aid should get it and armed with this knowledge we can all be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
Simply click on the link below and enter your postcode to find out where your nearest demonstration will take place. I just did it myself and there’s at least five near me within a 20 mile radius. You never know, one day you could help save someone’s life thanks to this simple piece of advice.
