Your charity gift could help someone like Gloria, who lives in Mathare Valley, in Nairobi, Kenya, one of the largest and most dangerous slums in the world. When her mother was taken into hospital six months ago, Gloria had to start looking after her younger brother and sister all on her own – at just six-years-old.

Faced with grinding poverty, food shortages and without an adult to care for them, life for Gloria and her siblings was desperate but Concern was able to offer a glimmer of hope. Everyday, Gloria takes her three-year old brother Aggrey Amwanda by the hand and with her 18-month-old sister Musungu on her back, they go to the Baruka Health Centre in the heart of the slum where Concern are running a food programme for malnourished children. There Gloria and her siblings are given breakfast and lunch – the only meals they get each day and the caring and dedicated staff watch over the children, making sure they are safe.

Since coming to the Health Centre, Gloria and her brother and sister have put on weight, grown stronger and become happy, smiling children. The Centre staff also tracked down the children’s aunt who now cares for them as her own, so Gloria and her siblings no longer have to live alone and in fear.
