After months of Greenpeace pressure, Shell has finally seen sense and abandoned their plans to drill for oil in the Arctic. The company planned to begin their potentially destructive search for oil off the coast of Alaska this year, but thanks to your help, Greenpeace has managed to convince Shell that this could be an environmental disaster.
This comes off the back of Shell admitting that they had no idea how much it would cost to clean an oil spill in the area, leaving shareholders at risk to losing millions of dollars. Shell also admitted that there could easily be spills whilst drilling, leaving the company to finally agree to call off the planned mission. Thanks to your support, Greenpeace have finally seen the abandonment of Shell’s drilling, and now turn their focus onto a new target – President Obama.
It was his administration that gave Shell the green light to drill in the Arctic, and now it’s time for us to stand together to tell President Obama that this area of the world needs to be off limits to such industrial exploitation. If Shell were unable to find a way to drill for oil in the Arctic, then surely it’s time to call off any other companies looking to do the same in the area?
President Obama and his administration need to put an end to speculation that other companies may be looking into drilling in the area, and to invest more time and money into clean energy sources like wind and solar. Simply click on the link below to add your name to the 361,000 other people who have emailed the President to ask him to leave the Arctic as it is. It literally takes 20 seconds, and you can help Greenpeace to reach their target of half a million supporters.
