SOS Africa is a UK registered volunteer-run charity which funds the education and care of underprivileged African township children. It was founded by student Matt Crowcombe and school teacher Henry Matthews during Matt’s gap year to South Africa in 2003. Among the many challenges faced during the day to day running of the SOS Africa Charity, one of the biggest is transporting our children to and from school in a safe and cost effective way. This is made increasingly difficult by the poor state of public transport and the rising increases in fuel prices.
To date, SOS Africa has relied upon increasingly unpredictable and hazardous public taxi services and their own volunteers to take its children to and from school. However, as the numbers of children supported by the charity increases, there is a need to find a more suitable solution to this problem.
After much deliberation and consultation, they have decided that the only solution would be to purchase the very first SOS Africa minibus. This will enable their volunteers to pick up the SOS Africa children from their doorsteps and –
- drop them off at the school gates on time in the morning
- collect them from their after-school care
- take them home in time to complete their household chores in the evening
This can be achieved in a cost-effective manor, whilst protecting our children from potentially dangerous environments. The purchasing of this minibus will cost the charity in the region of £15,000. Despite their recent successes, they are unable to purchase this bus themselves because they currently commit every penny donated by the charity’s supporters, to the education process. Therefore, to achieve this, they need your help!
