The NSPCC charity received a whopping £65,800 donation from the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, a record amount in their illustrious history. The Critics Circle was started in 1913 as an association for working British film critics. It is the only group of its kind in the UK and has nearly 300 members.

The awards ceremony was held in the ballroom at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, and the guest list included members of the movie elite such as Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ben Kingsley and Kristin Scott Thomas. The evening began with a champagne reception followed by the award ceremony, dinner and auction, which saw Dame Judi bidding £4,000 for a signed print of Paul Newman and Lee Marvin on the set of Pocket Money from 1972.

The NSPCC Award for Young Performer of the Year went to Thomas Turgoose for his role in the Shane Meadows’ short film ‘Somers Town’.

 

Thomas is a fantastic young actor and his first ever performance in ‘Made in England’, another Shane Meadows film, is truly spectacular!
